This blended learning course is designed specifically for Clinical Assistants. It equips participants with the skills to perform effective IV cannulations and administer radiopharmaceuticals. Topics include vein and venous assessment, quality patient care and management—including complications and anaphylaxis—accurate tracer dose calculation, and procedures for managing radioactive spills. The course includes 2 hours of online theory followed by a one-day simulation training assessment, delivered either virtually or in person at The Christie’s clinical training centre.

Please note, if you have no prior experience of cannulating, please book onto an in-person simulation training assessment.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop the necessary skills to effectively perform IV Cannulations and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Discuss vein and venous assessments.
  • Develop an awareness of quality patient care and management, including complications, anaphylaxis, and ongoing care.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge to effectively manage and clean up radioactive spills.
