Dr Heather Williams

Dr Heather Williams MBE is a Consultant Medical Physicist and leader of the Nuclear Medicine group at The Christie and has extensive experience in a wide variety of Nuclear Medicine techniques.

Publications include a range of novel imaging applications, including PET-CT. Dr Williams’ team provides subject specialist expertise in PET physics and clinical technology to the PET-CT Academy.

Jo Davies

With over two decades working in
the field of education, Jo is a seasoned teaching professional committed to making learning impactful.

Driven by a lifelong love of
learning, she has a master’s degree in Educational Technology, a P.G.C.E and a diploma in Digital Learning Design.

This powerful combination of deep
pedagogical understanding and innovative design thinking drives the leadership of the Academy’s education programme.

After completing his USMLE, he undertook a further accredited specialist training/fellowship at The University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, USA in molecular imaging, nuclear medicine and radionuclide targeted therapies.

He is currently a Consultant Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician at The Christie, a role which commenced in January 2007.

His sub specialised interest is in onco-radiology, neuroendocrine tumours and HPB oncology.

In April 2016, he was appointed as the Academy Director at The Christie.

This role includes providing clinical leadership in delivering PET-CT service to 70% of the contracted workload in England.

He is also the Clinical Molecular Imaging and Radiology/Molecular radiotherapy & imaging research lead at The Christie.

His research interest includes molecular and functional imaging looking at early biomarkers of response.

This is underpinned by a substantial career in Health Professions Education (both nationally and internationally) and the development of sector-leading curricula, programmes of study and assessment systems in previous senior education roles at the Universities of Leeds and Liverpool which generated exciting new initiatives in curriculum design, mobile technology, assessment and personalised learning across health professions and the continuum of undergraduate and postgraduate practice.

Rikki practices clinically as a Consultant Stroke Physician and Geriatrician.

Their main research interests focus primarily on assessment, working with a cross institutional group of research colleagues, which has led to over 200 key outputs (significant journal papers; invited and peer reviewed presentations to learned societies and institutions; educational consultancy). This portfolio of work centres on the ‘personalisation’ of assessment, to support individual learner journeys, drawing on impact-based research including the application of intelligent assessment design in campus and workplace-based assessment formats, assessor behaviours, mobile technology delivered assessment and the impact of sequential testing methodologies.

Rikki publishes and speaks regularly at leading international medical education conferences, and is an active PhD supervisor, with current students focusing on assessment and curriculum research.

Rikki holds a number of UK and international educational advisory roles, including acting as an assessment expert for the General Medical Council, and leadership of the GMC’s Tests of Competence Board. Rikki is the current Chair of the global ASPIRE Board and Executive Panel which focuses on excellence in Health Professions Education, set up by the Association of Medical Education in Europe (https://amee.org/aspire/) and additionally is a trustee and member of the Governing Committee of AMEE.

With over 30 years of experience in the field of multi-professional clinical education, she has specialised in the field of clinical communication, faculty development and leadership, and has led the development of a number of national and international programmes of education for health professionals of all disciplines. Cathy has published a number of papers in both communication, knowledge acquisition and behaviour change, and written chapters for and contributed to many books, workshops and conferences.
