IV Cannulation and Administration of Radiopharmaceuticals
This course takes a blended learning approach that combines a theory component on our e-learning platform with attending a face-to-face simulation training assessment. You can attend the face-to-face simulation training assessment either in person at The Christie in our state-of-the-art clinical training centre, or virtually.
Please note, if you have no prior experience of cannulating, please book onto an in-person simulation training assessment.
Learning Outcomes
- Perform effective IV Cannulations and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
- Describe how to perform vein and venous assessments.
- Develop awareness of quality patient care and management, including complications, anaphylaxis, and ongoing care.
- Describe how to accurately calculate tracer doses.
- Describe the process to effectively manage and clean up radioactive spills.

Rachelle Wood
Rachelle, a qualified Operating Department Practitioner since 2010, joined The Christie as an Anaesthetics and Recovery Practitioner and later trained in chemotherapy. In 2022, she became a Senior Clinical Skills Trainer at the Christie School of Oncology. Since 2023, she has also served as a trainer/assessor for IV cannulation with the PET-CT Academy, leading workshops and assessments to ensure safe practice.
